Pool Stains

POOL STAINING PROBLEMS

A stain is something that alters the appearance of the pool surface to the detriment of the pool, it can be the size of a hair clip or to where the whole pool surface is stained. Stains are primarily caused by unbalanced water which can introduce metals into the water. These react with Chlorine and/or alkaline pH to give dark coloured metal oxides which we call stains.

REMOVING THE STAIN

Treating a stain is a two stage process. The first stage is adding Multi Stain Remover or Spotaway (for fibreglass pools only!) to lift the stain. Multi Stain Remover is specifically designed to remove stains such as iron, copper, manganese, tannin, and cobalt while Spotaway is specifically designed to remove and prevent Black Spot Osmosis staining on fibreglass pools.

PREVENT RE-OCCURRENCE

The second stage is preventing the re-occurrence of further stains. As soon as you see the stain lifting you must add No More Metal. This enables the metal ions that have lifted off the surface to be held in suspension in the water and deposited in the filter. Failure to add No More metal will result in the stains reappearing on pool surfaces.

MAINTAINING SPARKLING WATER

When treating stains the rapid changes to pH and Total Alkalinity can result in your pool water turning cloudy. In order to prevent this we recommend that you use either Miraclear Pool Clarifier or Miraclear Gel Cubes.
